The Internet of Things (IoT) is nowadays a reality and it is applied in so many fields: smart home, elder care, medical and healthcare, transportation, building and home automation, manufacturing, agriculture, infrastructure applications, metropolitan scale deployments, energy management, and environmental monitoring. However, whatever is its application field the building blocks of an IoT are always the same. There are the sensors/actuators, the communication layer, the middle/abstraction layer, the data storing, and data analysis/mining. In some cases, it is required also a cloud base architecture, remote controls, and artificial intelligence.

For the fifth year running, the Institute for Information Systems and Networking (ISIN) of the Department of Innovative Technologies (DTI) of the University of Applied Sciences of Southern Switzerland (SUPSI) is organizing a Summer School on the Internet of Things.
